Organizing your home before you sell it will not only help you wow potential buyers, it will also help you when you move into your new home. In 2017, the Lake Norman trend in home organizing is all about minimizing your stuff. “Out with the old and in with the new,” has been replaced with just, “out with the old!” This is especially true when it comes to organizing your home before you sell it.
Here are four quick tips for organizing your home in just one weekend.
- Maximize your space by minimizing your stuff. Get rid of genuine clutter now. Take a picture of every room (much like the ones your realtor will take when they list your home.) This will show you immediately where your genuine clutter is. Set a time and give yourself 15 minutes per room to declutter the room. You’ll be astounded how much you can accomplish in 15 minutes!
- Store items that you don’t need now but will want to use in your new house. This means big items like furniture pieces you can live without until you get to the new house. You don’t want to pay to store clutter!
- Make storage spaces look huge! Whether it’s a closet, a pantry, or a cabinet, make it look as uncluttered and empty as possible. Again, you may have to store away items you don’t need right now, but you want buyers to get the idea that your home has plenty of storage space. Again, give yourself just 15 minutes per room to organize the storage spaces in that room.
- Convert every room to it’s original purpose. If the room is a dining room and you use it as a study, convert it back to a dining room. If it’s a bedroom but you made it a TV room, stage it to look like a bedroom. You get the idea.
That’s it! Believe it or not, in just one weekend, you can declutter your home, store away unnecessary items, and stage every room. Then it’s time to call Cloninger Properties, the Lake Norman experts, and list your home with us. We’ll take it from there!
